http://www.rocketlawyer.com/Legal-Media.aspx : A recent report by the Fraud Advisory Panel asks the British government to step into virtual worlds to legislate cyber-crime.

“Such communities are not just chat rooms, they are also lucrative and growing marketplaces,” said the Chairman of the Panel’s Cyber-crime Working Group, Steven Phillippsohn. “Members use these interactive sites to buy and sell tangible goods and services such as land and property, clothing, music and bookmaking. But there’s nothing virtual about online crime, it’s all too real. It’s time government took this seriously.”

The Fraud Advisory Panel is a group in the U.K. chartered to raise awareness of the social and emotional damage caused by fraud in the private and public sectors. They gathered their findings from a report created by The Risk Management Group (TRMG) headed by Chairman Mark Johnson.

Just the Facts About Online Youth Victimization

The nation's foremost academic researchers on child online safety presented their research and answered questions over a luncheon panel on May 3. This was the first time these prominent academics have appeared together to present their research, which, altogether, represents volumes of data on the state of online youth victimization and online youth habits. More than likely you have heard pieces of their research quoted (or misquoted) on Capitol Hill during the last 12 months as Congress struggles to understand these issues. The discussion covered issues related to online youth safety including recent trends and the latest research.

Opened on World Press Freedom Day, May 3rd, residents can go to the RSF's offices to learn more about press freedom worldwide. They've got nice offices, and the brilliant 'Predators of Press Freedom' sign outside the front door. Welcome them to SL and thank them for their continued efforts!

Jnana Island

The Jnana Center is a gathering place for Jnana authors in Second LIfe.

Jnana is a mature, full-featured software platform, developed over the past ten years, that enables non-technical people to build a variety of interactive "intelligent" systems that provide round-the-clock, expert, "situation-specific" guidance.

To date, Jnana systems have mostly focused on real-world legal and regulatory problems.  However, Jnana is now seeking to expand beyond the legal/regulatory domain.

The individual storefronts at the Jnana Center have been created to provide useful examples of interactive systems that provide "situation-specific" guidance about:

1) Books

2) Cookware

3) Movies

4) Wireless phones, accessories, and service plans

The cookware demo is up and running (in the store that looks like a kitchen with black and white floor tiles).  You can expect to see the other Jnana demo systems up and running soon.

We are also developing Jnana Island -- a place where avatars can set up stores to sell real products to other avatars, using the Jnana software platform.  The goal is for vendors to profit by offering customers new and compelling shopping experiences that leverage the combined power of Jnana, Second Life, and Amazon.com.

If you are interested in becoming a Jnana author, or in opening a store on Jnana Island to sell real products to avatars, please let me know via in-world IM. Thanks.

Governments and political organizations represented in SL

Democratic Party of SL

Founded by Herble Reatequi

We believe in the values of Democracy, and in the principles upon which our country was founded; and subsequently outlined in the Constitution of the United States.  These values are the very fabric of America, and we are against the laws and policies that threaten them.  Behind each of these avatars is a person...a person who believes in these ideals, and believes that their voice, together with ours, WILL be heard, and that a difference will be made.

Republican Party of SL

Founded by Alby Yellowknife

To further the ideals of  the Republican Party in SL. We are missionaries on a mission to bring freedom from controlling ideas of Socialism, Communism, and Fascism. Freedom and Capitalism are the only roads to a better society. History has shown us what becomes of political ideas to reach Utopia. They become oppressive regimes, in the name of bringing equality to all (USSR, Cuba, and East Germany) are a few examples.

Real Life Government in Second Life

Founded by Hackshaven Harford

A group designed to assist in bringing government agencies into virtual worlds.  Think big!  How about a government continent that could be the 3-D equivalent of USA.gov formerly known as FirstGov.gov?

Current agencies include:

* Centers for Disease Control & Prevention

* Department of Trade & Industry (UK)

* Library of Congress

* National Aeronautics & Space Administration

* National Institute of Health

* National Oceanic& Atmospheric Administration

* National Physical Laboratory (UK)

Political Forum

Founded by Misty McConachie

A group for people who'd like to get together for casual, fun political chats. We hold  weekly discussions, predominantly about Real Life political issues and current affairs.

The emphasis is on politics in a broad (and global) sense. The idea is to have casual discussion in a relaxed, non-adversarial  environment.

IM Misty McConachie if you have any questions!

A group for those obsessed with both the politics of Second Life (potential zoning, land usage, etc.) and first life.  People of all political  persuasions are welcome.  Hope to have weekly discussion events.
